Specialized Skills

One of the things about my job that I find fascinating is that I occasionally get to add some fairly random acquired skills to my resume. Examples?

-Boom Microphone Holder ("Grip" is the official term, I tell our production staff that they have special classes in MBA school - as they call it - for things like this)
-Airport Run Specialist (Have driving skills, will circle until your suitcase shows up)
-Stage Hand (When in doubt use brute force to get props to cooperate, have limited carpentry experience, not afraid to try stuff that isn't terribly well advised)
-Retail Salesperson (Sure, that extra large will look on you, what are you 135? 140? Gotta go with the XL)
-Security Specialist (So why exactly is it that you're out here 30 minutes after "In Rooms" time with your girlfriend? Praying together? Try again.)
-Flood Relocation Assistant (Yes, that toilet exploded, never seen that before. Okay, let's relocate 100 women in the middle of the night.)
-Travel Planner (Your flight got cancelled? That stinks. Well, thanks for calling. Let me know when you get it sorted out)
-Truck Pack Specialist (That'll fit right there, just push harder. As long as the door closes we're good!)
-Housing Expert (Sure, you can put 8 guys in that room. They're not going to shower all week anyway, it'll be fine.)

But last week I earned the right to add a new bullet to the resume:

-Truck Driver (No trucks in the left lane? Whatever. Oh, you mean trucks can't run the speed limit up the mountain? Sorry, sorry, didn't mean to get in your way. Hey, buddy, I said I was sorry, don't push your luck!)

That's right, I got to drive the truck 990 miles to Savannah and 990 miles home (plus some extra miles there in town). I'll have to say I found this a fairly fulfilling experience. There's something about having 16 hours of solitude after 3 weeks of 23 interns in close proximity that is fairly soothing and rolling down the road in a 13-ton truck just adds to the effect.

So now the question is what new skill will I get to learn next?
